UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights

  • Overview: The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights are the product of six years of research and extensive consultations involving governments, companies, business associations, civil society, affected individuals and groups, investors and others around the world. They were unanimously endorsed by the UN Human Rights Council in 2011, and they represent the first global standard for preventing and addressing the risk of adverse impacts on human rights linked to business activity. 
     

  • Links to other global instruments: The UN Guiding Principles take into account internationally recognized human rights including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.
